How do we decide what is important?

I balance home and career but there are times when I feel stress when I've put too much on my plate.  It seems like just as soon as I accept a new responsibility (President-Elect of my local Math Council) my admin comes to me with an urgent plea (needs a powerpoint for the district math meeting), and a school play needs an amazing costume (A lizard?).  I have learned over the years not to get on every committee, and not to give too much time for free.  Lately I have been excited about a lot of things, so I am just having to manage my time carefully.

My first loves in teaching are pedagogy, management, and math, in equal parts.  The advent of Common Core State Standards, and a school-wide commitment to a systematic behavior system, and a local math conference have created a perfect storm to keep me busy.  Don't worry, kids, I have a big chunk of the weekend set aside for cuddling and family time!

The pull downs on this page are specifics for my favorite time-spenders.  These are the professional endeavors that I just couldn't resist.
